    Upgrading from Ubuntu 13.04

  • Open source software.
  • Press Alt+F2. Type “update manager” (without quotes) in the command field.
  • The Update Manager should open and tell users: A new version of the “13.10” distribution is available immediately.
  • Click and update following the instructions on the screen.
  • Install some update-manager-core package if it doesn’t already exist.

  • Run the upgrade tool with the sudo do-release-upgrade command.

  • Followfollow the instructions on the screen.
  • Note that the server uses GNU shield heavily and will reconnect almost immediately if there are problems with missing greetings.

    Offline upgrade options using the included CDs are no longer offered for Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server searches. Make sure your network is connected to one of the official mirrors or a locally available mirror and simply follow the instructions above.

    Updating From Other Versions

    Users of other versions of Ubuntu must first upgrade to 13.04 and then to 13.10.

    What is Saucy Salamander Ubuntu?

    Ubuntu came into being using its 13.10 version called “Saucy Salamander” along with its derivatives i.e. Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Edubuntu, Kubuntu, etc. The Ubuntu 13.10 release will get the latest 3.11 kernel which is said to provide improved performance and stability.

    Due to bugs in Wubi that were not designed for version 13.04, the Wubi installer will no longer be released in version 13.10. Now you can read more about this solution here. Users who want to try out Ubuntu without redistributing their Windows system are encouraged to instead use a live system bootable from a DVD or a dedicated USB drive.
